Hello

UUCR is starting a weekly note with a 'spiritual thought of the week'. Some will be serious, some will be light-hearted, theologically they will be diverse to match our congregation’s own diversity.
For our initial forays, we wanted to focus on the idea of original blessing, and look for different perspectives that can help us know the reality of this in our own lives. Today, we suggest one answer to the question, "what kind of god or creative generative energy could we imagine that allows us to feel this blessing?"
There’s a great little poem, “God Says Yes To Me” by Kaylin Haught, which presents one of these images of an accessible, approachable, and positive creative center of the world.
I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes
This way of looking at the creative energy at the center of the world gives us god who is Goddess, who is personal, who loves and has no tight rules and flows and loves - did we say loves? - loves us just BEing as we are. Isn’t this one wonderful voice through which we might hear the message of the original blessing of our lives?"
